It has often been shown that lawyers, after a personal conversation with the psychopath, were suddenly so taken in by his charm that they made an unexpected change of direction and advised more lenient approaches. They suggested settlements to their clients that played into the hands of the opposing party. Or it happened that after personally meeting the psychopath, lawyers suddenly became unreachable for their clients, responded to malicious letters only superficially, etc., until the clients withdrew their mandate on their own.
Other lawyers were approached with bribery attempts or were pressured. I am not making this claim up.
