In dealing with others, psychopaths are highly manipulative. They know how to use their charm effectively. They often mislead those around them, including professionals, by feigning guilt or empathy. They are acutely aware of what reactions are considered socially appropriate. However, psychopaths do not have a conscience that troubles them when they act immorally. Their lack of emotions gives them the advantage of being able to think through their actions very rationally. Because of this ability, people with psychopathy often quickly rise to high professional positions. Fear or doubt are foreign to them. They pursue their interests without regard for losses or the impact on others.
