The BurdaVerlag is unequivocally standing behind its staff journalist, Manfred Otzelberger. The announcement by Bundestag member and CSU General Secretary Stephan Mayer to “track down” a journalist “for the rest of his life” and ultimately “destroy” him represents a clear breach of moral, legal, and constitutional boundaries. Moreover, the demand for a €200,000 transfer coupled with the threat to “destroy” the journalist can be perceived as a serious extortionate threat against Manfred Otzelberger, given the significant political influence of the CSU General Secretary.

Stephan Mayer’s threatening calls constitute severe transgressions in both form and content by a high-ranking politician in our democratically structured state. As a member of the Bundestag, Mayer is part of a constitutional body and is particularly obligated to uphold the Basic Law, including safeguarding and defending the fundamental right to press freedom. Threats of “destruction” and pursuit against journalists stand in stark contradiction to these principles and cannot be tolerated by the free press. Such attempts to intimidate the media by a representative of the German Bundestag and a democratic party are an unprecedented violation of political norms and the political culture in our country.

BurdaVerlag has initiated legal action against Mr. Stephan Mayer in response to these developments.

Statement from the Burda Publishing House

… this threat / demand for payment could also come from my ex-husband …

It sounds like something out of a mafia movie – that’s how I’ve felt for a long time. My surroundings have been bombarded with threats like these for many years, slandered, denounced, careers destroyed, friendships shattered. This blog only captures a small glimpse of this madness.

They claim I’m ‘mentally ill’ (in various forms), sometimes saying I’m bipolar, other times borderline, an unsuccessful suicide attempt, or a cutter – whatever fits the context at the time.

Anyone who tried to help us was reported to the prosecutor’s office by my ex-husband, threatening letters were written that reached as high as the Ministry of Health and the Bavarian government, email addresses were created in my name to cause havoc … I wouldn’t even rule out bribery.

So far, nothing has happened.

Enough is enough.
‘Me-too’ was just the beginning.

Cannot say for certain whether things will get better if they change; but what I can say is this: things must change if they are to become better.
