He is certainly aware that he lies and manipulates, but he operates under the principle that ‘the end justifies the means.’ Since nothing is sacred or embarrassing to him, nothing restrains him in his boundless self-overestimation. When he realizes that his stories are being accepted, he draws even more strength and persuasiveness from this and reaches peak performance.
